TITLE: INTERNATIONAL SANITATION RESEARCH & MONITORING, EVALUATION AND LEARNING (MEL) CONSULTANT
REPORTING TO: PROJECT MANAGER, WASHPALS
1. ABOUT SELF HELP AFRICA
Self Help Africa (SHA) is an International Development Organization headquartered in Dublin, Ireland and dedicated to the vision of ‘Sustainable livelihoods and healthy lives for all in a changing climate’. We have almost 50 years of experience working in Africa, including over 20 years in Nigeria (as united purpose and concern Universal).
2. JOB PURPOSE
The Global Research & MEL consultant is expected to deploy his/her expertise to lead or support all the MEL components of the WASHPaLS project including joint scoping visits, development of a MEL framework for the Benue pilot, scoping of learning on AWS efforts in fragile context globally and in country; via leading a brief global desk reviews and work in soliciting learning of others via KIIs and workshop at Abuja national-level, review and support the development of tools for baseline survey, formative research and on-going learning and reflection of project staff and partners.
Furthermore, the consultant will facilitate orientation on research techniques where needed to collect and input quality information, perform periodic check-ins with the project team, engagement on calls to review and harvest learning from ongoing pilot, develop a framework and tools for compiling learning products and the toolbox, review and inputs in the learning products and toolbox of successful approaches of AWS in fragility.
3. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Master’s degree in water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) or a related field and 10 years of experience in WASH or related field and 10 years of experience in WASH sector at the global level. Experience of the rural sanitation sector in Nigeria will be an added advantage. Extensive knowledge and experience of Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) in the WASH sector specifically in the area of qualitative research and focusing on area wide sanitation (AWS).
